Andre Deutsch, 1976. Hardcover. Very Good. First edition, Andre Deutsch, 1976. Hardcover, with jacket - price on jacket flap is intact. Minimal edge wear to jacket. Interior is clean and unmarked. Binding strong. Green boards with gold lettering along spine. Slight bump to spine head. Points sharp. Overall a nice copy, near fine condition. Jacket now in Mylar. A collection of stories written by V.S. Naipaul's father. First self published as a pamphlet in 1943, Seepersad Naipaul put out a collection of stories titled Gurudeva and Other Indian Tales. He continued to write and expand on those stories until his death. This is the first collection of those stories in book form and includes a nice forward by V.S. Naipaul. An interesting and historical collection of Trinidad literature, which was a large influence on V.S. Naipaul's own work. Rare and hard to find, especially in this nice of a condition. Photos available upon request.

v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
