1836 AFRICA 1ed Lander Niger River Exploration Illustrated Maps Slavery

Richard Lander was an English explorer who made his name for his voyages into Africa. After nearly a decade of African voyages, the British government sent Richard and his brother John in 1830 to explore the Niger River. While at the river delta, they were captured by local tribes for a short time. Their voyage did yield grand results – they discovered the Niger River course and outlets.
The specifics of the journey were written and published under various titles, including 'The Travels of Richard and John Lander'. This work is a fascinating account of African culture, geography, and 19th-century exploration. This 1836 first edition includes nine fine, full-page engravings, including maps and views of local tribes.

Description:
1806 Froissart Chronicles Illustrations Hundred Years' War Medieval ChivalryThe 'Chronicles' of Jean Froissart have continually been perceived as an important work on medieval history for centuries, since its inception in the 14th-century. While some of the subjects covered are repetitive and insignificant, many topics are of utmost importance including famous battles, deaths of monarchs, and the Catholic Church Great Schism. According to Adams in the "Manual of Historical Literature,""Froissart might be called the great interviewer of the Middle Ages. The newspaper correspondent of modern times has scarcely surpassed this medieval collector of intelligence. He travelled extensively in the various countries of Europe; he conversed with gentlemen of rank everywhere; and he had the remarkable knack of persuading those about him to divulge all he wanted to know. He learned the details of battles from both sides and from every point of view. He delighted in the minutest affairs of every cavalry skirmish,… Read More

1830 Franz Josef Haydn String Quartets Viola Score Classical MUSIC Folio Sonatas

An impressive, folio printing of the music of Franz Joseph Haydn.

Haydn is, without question, one of the most important and recognized figures in the history of classical music. Haydn's only mistake was composing and performing at the same time as Mozart. However, Haydn's music is still highly playable and enjoyed around the world.

This tome is the viola part to Haydn's string quartets and sonatas. These books were published around 1830 in Paris.

v+321 pages. Small octavo (7 3/4" x 5 1/2") bound in original publisher's black cloth with gilt lettering to cover and spine. First British edition. St. Ives: Being The Adventures of a French Prisoner in England (1897) is an unfinished novel by Robert Louis Stevenson. It was completed in 1898 by Arthur Quiller-Couch. Unable to write, Stevenson dictated thirty chapters of the novel to his stepdaughter as a diversion from his debilitating illness. He alternated dictating St. Ives and The Weir of Hermiston but gradually lost interest in the former. The plot concerns the adventures of the dashing Capitaine Jacques St. Ives, a Napoleonic soldier, after his capture by the British. Condition: Corners bumped and rubbed, shelf wear, hinges and spine heal moderately rubbed, previous owner's name on front end paper else a very good copy.
