Published by Adam & Charles Black, 1912. 1st edition.. Hardback. Very Good/Good. Illustrated by Folkard, Charles. Very good condition in a good dustwrapper. The De Luxe limited edition of 250 copies. Cream pictorial cloth with gilt titles. Large format. 12 wonderful tipped-in colour plates mounted on brown paper with captioned tissue-guards plus b/w text illustrations. 209 numbered pages, top edge gilt and others untrimmed. Burgundy silk page marker. SIGNED by the publishers, this is copy no. 148. Spine and corners very slightly bumped. Foxing to endpapers and textblock. Dustwrapper is edge worn with loss to top and tail of spine and tears which have been tape repaired on verso the wrapper is also lightly browned and foxed. An exceptionally nice copy of this scarce edition made even more desirable by the original dustwrapper being present. This copy would make a wonderful gift.

Aesop, known only for the genre of fables ascribed to him, was a slave in the mid-sixth century BC in Greece. He is assumed to have written many of these curious moral parables, and they have been added to and translated into many languages since they were first collected.
