The first edition of this selection, and the first with these magnificent Reynolds Stone engravings. 4to. 94pp. One of 300 copies (out of a total edition of 350) designed by Will Carter, printed on Basingwerk parchment, bound in buckram and signed by Reynolds Stone. Stone contributes a title page decoration, five wood engraved plates and a small closing vignette; plus a small gilt decoration to upper board. Buckram just fractionally marked in one or two places, else a fine copy. No dust wrapper, as issued. Twenty-three poems (including the eleven-parter 'Flying Scrolls'), six of which are hitherto unprinted with several others making their first bookform appearance..

Original vellum board blind stamped, two outer fillets around panel edge, inner double fillet panel, with fleur de lisle at the corners, and a centre emblem to both front and back boards. Bumped corners, edge wear, marking to boards, split to the rear board, top front edge. Page edges soiled, some nicks and creasing. Some neat notations in the margins. Albius Tibullus, (c. 55 bc—c. 19 bc), Roman poet, writer of elegies. He was of equestrian rank (according to the Vita) and inherited an estate but, like Virgil and Horace he seems to have lost most of it in 41 bc, by Mark Antony and Octavian, Wetstein, Henricus [printer] Mulder, Joseph 1659 or 1660- [artist] Broen, Willem de [engraver]

Some occasional light pencilled marginalia and some notes to the front free endpaper, probably in Julian Symons' hand but possibly also in Posner's. One of an unknown but presumably microscopic number of copies of the self-published first edition of this pocket-sized poetic collection by a key figure in San Francisco's North Beach from the Beat era until his death a few years after this was issued. From the estate of my great-great grandfather.Includes many unique poems and recitations such as "To a skull", "Uncle Daniel's Introduction to a Mississippi Steamer", "The Leak in the Dyke", etc. More well-known poetry includes "Song of Birds", "Old Ironsides", and "Bannock Burn" by Robbie Burns. Light rubbing and bumps to outside spine edges. Back cover and interior cloth covered board has a stain at top. Original owner's name and address from 1908, but no other writing or marks. First 2 pages have a stain at top, but text of 192 pages of poetry and recitations is totally clean with light tanning of pages.
