Kerry & co / Tyrrell's Sydney: No. 1829 Gingung, a warrior. Silver gelatin print, with albumen paper process. Signed in the negative. Studio Stamped. Title written in the negative. Stamp (slightly visible, see image) on verso. This is a print by Tyrrell from negatives from Kerry & Co. There is a copy referenced at the Maas Museum of New South Wales. The photograph is stamped on back 'TYRRELL'S MUSEUM / OF / ANTIQUES BOOKS & CURIOS / 143 CASTLEREAGH STREET / SYDNEY' 1829 and identified by Smalls auctions in Australia as an early reprint from the original 'Kerry' glass negative. The sepia reprints are likely the working stock of the Kerry Studio that Tyrell acquired along with the original glass negatives. London: Leadlay Ltd, 1931. Portfolio with original quarter vellum over gilt lettered grey boards. Small certificate of limitation pasted to the inside front board. Grey flaps hold loose card inserts. These comprise: a title sheet; a contents sheet; Note by Beerbohm, which is a facsimile hand written note on laid paper, tipped into grey card folder; 5 portraits by Beerbohm tipped into grey card folders. Subjects are Mr. Noel Coward, Miss Peggy Wood, Mr. Georges Metaxa, Miss Ivy St. Helier, and Mr. Charles B. Cochran. The vellum and boards have light markings to them, and a little bumping, but still very presentable. The grey folders have a touch of darkening to them. Norimbergæ [Nürnberg]: Jo. Baptist Homann, 1716. Copper engraving by Johann Baptist Homann, with contemporary hand colouring. The cartouche has a scene of Gods watching the fighting on a battlefield. The map covers the Dauphiné in southeastern France. In the west is the Rhône, and in the east Piemont in Italy. 505 x 580 mm (20 x 22¾ inches). One central fold. The colours are strong and edges are a little delicate. Blank verso. Gravure sur cuivre de Johann Baptist Homann, avec coloration à la main contemporaine. Le cartouche a une scène de dieux regardant les combats sur un champ de bataille. La carte couvre le Dauphiné dans le sud-est de la France. A l'ouest se trouve le Rhône, et à l'est le Piémont en Italie. 505 x 580 mm (20 x 22¾ pouces). Un pli central. Les couleurs sont fortes et les bords sont un peu délicats. Verso vierge.

1900. An attractive two layer glass painting of The Madonna and Child, after Bodenhausen's infamous 'Eine Vision'. Cuno von Bodenhausen (1852-1931). The shaped glass (slightly convex) has been painted in two layers to the rear. Signed in plate to lower right. The two layers of painted glass together give a depth to the image. A few lights scratches to the paint surface, but still attractive. It seems that this was once in a frame, as the edges are unfinished. 270 x 180 mm (10¾ x 7 inches).

The complete second half of the year, including the scarce Tricolour issue, which was published in blue, white and red. Binding and end papers are spotless. The newspaper is clean and tidy, with a few pages uncut. Slightly darkened and some minor edge wear, but overall an excellent example. Le Nain Jaune was a pro-Bonaparte political newspaper, openly displayed on Napoleon's return. At the second return of the Bourbons, the newspaper was suppressed. In 1816 Cauchois-Lemaire had fled to Belgium and the newspaper was published from there. In November 1816 it was merged with the Mercury Surveillant to become Le Liberal [ii]. 266 [ii] pp. 230 x 150 mm (9 x 6 inches). . Toile brune récente avec titres dorés.
