About This Item
London: Ernest Benn. London, Ernest Benn, 1930. Limited Edition. Hardback. 51/60 Copies. One of 60 copies, of which fifty were for sale (and let's face it, the other ten have probably found dispersal as readily as the other fifty by now). Signed by the author to the half-title verso, on a limitation page as issued. Thirteen short pieces concerning the Greek gods. Phillpotts wrote a great number of works of fiction, many concerning Dartmoor, he was also an awful man and preyed on his young daughter well into her adult life. Borges liked him, so I guess there's something to be said for remembering the work if not the man. The book is dedicated to his wife. Very good condition, cloth to spine heavily faded. Front end paper carries the start of an inscription: "To", the inscription clearly unfinished; a mote of history lost to the ether (I admit, it was probably something highly mundane). Provenance: George Locke, as mentioned in Spectrum as having cost him a fiver in the 70's. [6395, Hyraxia Books]. . Very Good. Hardback. Limited Edition. 1930.
