London: Hurst & Blackett, 1867. First THUS. Hardcover. Signed by George MacDonald on half title, inscribed to George Bogue. First one-volume edition. (With correct printer info of J. Childs and Son. Shaberman 20.) 440, (4)pp. Original green cloth with gilt spine stamping, front blindstamped. Good+ with a cocked spine, cloth worn and a bit frayed along edges, exposed tips, some foxing and thumbing, hinges very tender. Alice in Wonderland author Lewis Carroll called this novel "very enjoyable, and the character of Annie Anderson is one of the most delightful I have ever met with in fiction." A scarce signed work by the Scottish Victorian novelist who helped create the genre of fantasy.
