Contemporary Blue-green and brown linen cloth on boards; wear to ends of spines; paper label on spine chipped at head; separate red printed red paper label on front boards; fading along hinge, and all edges; dusting to tail and part of fore edge of ffep, mainly to Vol. II. Collation: Vol I.- [vi], 50 recto mounted specimens, each with blank cover leaf and printed label at tail of page; Vol.II. – [iv], 50 mounted specimens as Vol. I. There is a total of 100 intact specimens of preserved algae carefully glued to leaf either as a pressed plant or plant previously dried onto separate piece of paper that was then glued to the page. At the bottom of each page is a printed and mounted caption label with number, Latin genus and species and location found. Each numbered label corresponds to the printedGirdlestone, some with 1850 dates and some unnamed./ Vol. 1 has cancel slip 'Vol. I' pasted over Vol. II on title.” This is a rare copy. He discovered Erica mackaina and sent algae to W. J. Hooker, W. H. Harvey and others. His only publication is this one, Algae Hibernicae.
