Alice's Adventures in Wonderland

by Carroll, Lewis [Dodgson, Charles]

Condition: Very Good

Boston: Lee and Shepard, 1869. First Edition. Hardcover. Very Good. First American edition, first printing. About Very Good. Spine cloth faded with shallow chipping at ends, light rubbing and light soiling to cloth, tape stains to paste downs, joints exposed on both sides of the front free end paper with associated rubbing to the fore edge of ffep, previous owner details at front and a ding to the edge of the page block causing chips to several page edges; else a much nicer copy than normally encountered. The first edition to be printed in America, following the suppressed 1865 edition which utilized British sheets, and of which there are few surviving copies.

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live action and cartoon), plays, and musicals. Read more: Identifying first editions of Alice's Adventures in Wonderland
