Hodder & Stoughton Limited, London. No date. 1922. FIRST HUDSON EDITION. 4to. (10.2 x 8.1 inches). Finely illustrated with 12 mounted full colour plates, each with a printed tissue guard, and dozens of line drawings throughout the text and along top of text pages. A small amount of foxing and a neat three line inscription, dated 1924, to the decorative endpapers and a few minor marks to the margins of a handful of pages but generally a very good copy in publishers red cloth with gilt ruled lines and lettering plus gilt and black illustration to the spine. Front board with gilt lettering and gilt and black illustration within four gilt ruled border lines. Board edges a little rubbed and bumped but overall a very good copy of this attractive edition of Alice. --- Gwynedd May Hudson (1881-1932) only illustrated three books, starting with A day with Ralph Waldo Emerson (by Maurice Clare - a pseudonym of May Byron) in 1911, this work in 1922, and J. M. Barrie's Peter Pan and Wendy in 1931. Although not prolific, her work is distinct and still popular today with children's book collectors.
