Frontispiece photograph of "Lewis Carroll" and 40 marvelous monotone plates featuring the illustrator's unique take on the Alice characters. Previous owner's 1901 Christmas inscription, tiny bit of offsetting to the title page, some pages carelessly opened and others unopened. An exceedingly FINE COPY in original publisher's cream-colored paper-covered boards, t. e. g., with gilt titles and stamped vignette of Alice on front board. In an exceedingly FINE ORIGINAL DUST JACKET, virtually faultless. In a complete intact ORIGINAL GIFT BOX (the first example of this gift box we've ever seen). There is a patch of staining at one corner and some nicks and rubs -- otherwise the box is in excellent condition. The best surviving example of this landmark "Alice" known to us and it surely would be a centerpiece for any superb collection of famed Alice illustrators.. First Edition. Decorative Cloth. Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There, tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.
