This antique hardcover first edition is bound in gray pictorial boards, with red and black lettering and a cover illustration showing a man and three little devils. Spine lettering and decorations are gilt. Some cover soil, edgewear; some wear to spine; inner pages very slightly browned; mostly a clean, tight copy. Translated by Adolphus Norraikow, the book contains a short note by the translator, and three short stories: "Ivan the Fool," "A Lost Opportunity" and "Polikushka." 172 pages; approx. 5"x7".. SHORT STORY ANTHOLOGY. 242 pages. Maroon boards with gold titling and ornamentation. Good condition front paper paste-down label of a little girl wearing a red feather in her blue hat. "Humphrey was one of the first great American women illustrators paving the way for Jessie Willcox Smith, Grace Drayton and the many other women illustrators of the early 20th century. Otherwise, and in general effect, a very nice copy of a scarce Nineties title, with a bookplate (C.C.
