Dark red covers with dulled dark lettering on the spine and rubbed gilt lettering on the front, lightly rubbed at joints and spine-ends, lightly scuffed on corners. Sound binding, clean end-papers. More than half of front fold-out Map of Alston Moor is missing, plates are all present and clean, obverse of frontis, errata page and first page of text have light smudging, pages are otherwise clean. Plates (printed in brown) show: View of Alston from the Raise; Garrigill Gate; Alston Church; The Dissenter's Chapel at Loaning Head; Congregational Chapel at Garrigill; Arms of the London Lead Company; Nenthead; First Bridge on the Tyne.
