Albuquerque, NM Robert Stephan Young, 1981. Hardcover First Edition (1981), so stated. SIGNED AND DATED BY THE ARTIST IN BOULDER, COLORADO IN 1983. First Edition (1981), so stated. Very Good+ to Near Fine in Good DJ: The Book shows indications of very careful use; just a touch of shelf soiling to the white buckram over boards at the bottom edge of the front panel; a mild bump to the outside edge of the same; else flawless; the binding is square and secure; the text is clean. Free of any ownership names, dates, addresses, notations, inscriptions, stamps, plates, or labels. A handsome, lightly used copy, structurally sound and tighly bound, showing a couple of minor flaws. The DJ shows moderate wear to the extremities, with a 10" closed tear across the front panel (which has been repaired with cellophane 'magic' tape from verso) and several short, closed tears; considerable rubbing to the panels; unclipped. Overall, remains whole, with the help of the tape, but is not much more than functional at this point. NOT a Remainder, Book-Club, or Ex-Library. Squarish 4to. (11.35 x 11.5 x 1 inches). ix, 215 pages. Language: English. Weight: 3 pounds, 7.5 ounces. Hardback with DJ. Amado Peña is recognized as an Artisan of the Pascua Yaqui Tribe of Arizona. This is a particularly high honor and one that he cherishes. He is dedicated to furthering the public's knowledge and interest in the Tribe, its art, its history, and its culture. His art celebrates the strength of a people who meet the harsh realities of life in an uncompromising land and his work is a tribute to the Native Americans who survive by living in harmony with an adversarial, untamed environment. His artwork is inspired by places such as Canyon de Chelly, Spider Rock, Monument Valley, Enchanted Mesa, Acoma, and Black Mesa. These sites are part of an enduring landscape that speaks of the ancient heritage of a region that is now known as Arizona and New Mexico. Amado's artwork is defined by its bold color and form and dynamic composition. Through his art, he communicates his vision of a land, its people and their art. SIGNED AND DATED BY THE ARTIST IN BOULDER, COLORADO IN 1983.

Description:
Albuquerque, NM, U.S.A: Robert Stephan Young, 1981. First Limited Edition. Hard Cover. Used; Very Good/Good. SIGNED BY AUTHOR. SIGNED BY AUTHOR Many small tears and creases on DJ hardly detract from its impact; slight soiling to boards and edges but still a very nice copy. This is from a special edition of 150 copies, of which 50 were not offered for sale; it was published simultaneously with the regular edition (first printing of 5000 copies) and the extremely rare collector's edition which had a slipcase and an original etching. I believe that the 150 copies in the special edition were all signed by the author in purple marker on the half-title page which also bears a printed signature. All that aside, the most important thing is the artwork presented in this beautiful book. A serigraph artist of Mexican, Southwest, and Native American influence, Pena was born in Laredo, Texas and portrays the people and landscape of the entire southwest with a loving yet critical eye, in a kind of stylized… Read More
