New York: Edmund and George W. Blunt, 1837. Thirteenth edition improved. Hardcover. Very Good. 6 x 9 in. xix, 720 pp., plus 1 pg. advert. Full brown calf. Contains numerous charts and plates, some fold-out. This is a true working copy, with the original calf boards covered in plain cloth that has been nicely stitched to fit snugly, the stitching visible over the inner pastedowns, but not attached to the binding. Condition is VERY GOOD ; original calf boards appear to be in good condition with corners bumped and spine ends undamaged and whole. The cotton covers probably date from the 19th. c. and are toned with a few small spots, and general age-accumulated discolorations. Binding is tight. Text is overall bright with some edge toning and a few pgs here and there having water stains or black spots from contact with salt water (?) The fold out charts are all present, with all having wear and age-toning, many have wrikles at the folds. 2 are damaged - Long Island Sound has some tears and small missing parts, and Doboy Sound is split in half, both halves being present. The endpapers have some notes, drawings and pencil calculations, as well as an old clipping on changes to buoys on the front pastedown, and there are some pencil calculations on the rear of the ffep. Not a copy for a perfectionist, but rather one for someone who appreciates how well-used a copy of this critical work for mariners is. Naut. RGR.
