New York, 1878. A very early transcontinental US broadside dated April 16th, 1878, with connections by steamship to Hawaii, New Zealand, Australia, Japan & China. This was printed just nine years after transcontinental travel became available. With fares printed in "US Gold" to Honolulu, Auckland, Wellington, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Rockhampton, Yokohama, Hiogo, Nagasaki, Shanghai and Hong Kong. Classes included are first class, special first class, servants, and 3d class. The first class rate from New York to Honolulu is listed as $210; to Auckland, $280; to Sydney, $280; to Melbourne, $305; to Shanghai, $380; and to Hong Kong, $355. Text below the rate chart pertaining to luggage, assistance for passengers from Europe at the steamship landings, etc. C. B. Meeker, General Passenger Agent New York Central & Hudson River R.
