About This Item

New York: Charles Scribner's Sons, 1919. [16], 230 pages, plus frontispiece and numerous plates reproducing paintings by the author. Original dark green cloth, stamped in gold, with a color illustration mounted on the front cover. [23 cm.] Tasteful bookplate on front pastedown, else near fine. Lacks the rare dust jacket. Minor evidence of rubbing, tiny area of light speckling to front board, still a nice copy. FIRST EDITION. Ernest Peixotto (1869–1940) was a noted American artist and illustrator. During World War I, he served as a captain in charge of a group of painters appointed by the U.S. Army to depict the war.
