Very good +, apparent early printing of this massive pictorial work on World War II, from the library of a World War II "Black Cats" squadron pilot. Green paper boards over blue quarter cloth spine, with perfect gilt American eagle on front cover. Binding is sound and tight on this massive book, pages and photos bright and clean. Bumping to head and tail of spine. Tiny ink drops spattering about 1/2" on first free endpaper, no other markings. Dust jacket a little chipped, and price clipped. Dust jacket now protected in clear, removable, archival cover. Profusely illustrated. 640 pp. Small quarto, 9 x 11 inches tall. This comprehensive book begins with pictures from before, during and after the war. Barbed wire still on Normandy beach decades after the war, a rusted tank in the water off an island somewhere in the South Pacific, and Japanese children playing near the bombed out ground zero of Hiroshima. There are over 600 pages of pictures, maps and insight into the war. Mixed in are letters from important figures as well as ordinary men and women from all sides of the conflict balanced by historians.
