About This Item
Philadelphia: J. Harding, 1848. Very Good. Philadelphia: J. Harding, 1848. 32mo (5" x 3.25"); 219pp. Contemporary leather with black title card and gilt lettering to spine. Boards bumped and rubbed at corners, with moderate smudging and scuffing to surface. Split starting along front joint, but binding is still secure. Light to occasionally-moderate foxing throughout, else pages unmarked. Page binding is sound.
Collection of American humor, compiled by Y.D. [short for "Yankee Doodle," per the 1939 edition]. The subtitle "with humorous illustrations" appears to mean "examples," as neither this nor the digitized copy at Columbia show any plates or engravings.
This copy from the personal library of author and language writer William Safire, but without his bookplate or ownership marks. Folded blue sheet (8.75" x 6.75") of "Order of Exercises at the Celebration of the Byfield Sabbath School printed by Hiram Tozer of Newburyport, MA laid in.
