London: George Virtue, 26, Ivy Lane, 1840. First Edition First Printing . Hardcover. Very Good. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. W. W. Bartlett. Quarto. iv, 140; iv, 106 pages. Complete with 120 engraved plates, plus 1 map. The binding measures 11 1/8 inches tall by just over 9 inches wide. Hardcover bound in original 3/4 black leather with dark brown cloth-covered boards. The binding is rubbed and bumped, and the hinges are especially rubbed but holding. Corners bumped and abraded. Some old stains and scuffs to the binding. A sound copy. A yellow bookseller's ticket on the front pastedown reads "Applegate, Pounsford & Co. / (Successors to Applegate & Co.) / Publisher's, Booksellers / Stationers, Printers / and Blank Book Manufacturers, No. 43, Main Street. - - Cincinnati." Marbled endpapers. The text is toned and shows some foxing on and around the plates. The foxing can be quite heavy, especially at the beginning of the book. Two volumes in one book. The dates are on the title pages. Collates complete with all plates. There are 67 plates (including the engraved title page) and a map in Volume I, and there are 53 plates (including the engraved title page) in Volume II.
