Newfoundland: Collected By VON, Victorian Order of Nurses - Corner Brook Branch, 1999 IN AS NEW CONDITION. SIGNED COPY. vi [2] 126pp, spiral bound, in original stiff wraps. Warmly inscriped "Dear Ann & Don, Hope you enjoy the reading. A few mistakes - our first attempt. Love and God Bless, Eileen (Powell)". Eileen provided the dedication, and numerous poems, along the occasional correction. Memories, experiences, short stories and poems, from the Senior population of Corner Brook, Bay of Islands and surrounding area of the West Coast of Newfoundland.

I, III & IV (none required in Vol. II). 2 portraits (incl. frontis.). contemporary gilt-stamped chagrin, all edges gilt (rubbed, last volume upper rear joint cracked & gouge in one compartment of spine)

Toronto: Ryerson 1942, 1st Canadian Edition. (Hardcover) 396pp. Very good, no dust jacket. Blue cloth with yellow titles. Light wear at the tips of the corners and the top and bottom ends of the spine, a previous owner's inscription on the front endpaper, some stains on a few pages and edges, the untrimmed fore-edges show wear, a few pages have dog-ear creases, and on close inspection one can see that the back inner hinge has been repaired from the inside. In a mylar jacket. (Fiction, Canadian, Juvenile).

FIRST EDITION, solidly bound in green with four-colour illistration to front and gilt to spine. Book probably grades Very Good for age but has a corner bump you see on scan. Top and bottom of spine have the usual wrinkles, but other wise the book has no substantial defects. The frontis still has the full tissue-protection. All 20 plates are presnt and correct with no defects. General mild toning. Overall dull looking

You get both volumes 1 and 2. Both in leather or leather-like binding as new and fresh as the day they were born. Maps diagrams layout of town of Granville, map of Vancouver fire. Privately published in 1932 by Major J.S. Matthews (City Archivist) "Copyright of Provincial Archives of British Columbia). A treasure of a survivor and in perfect gift quality. Some mystery exists over Matthews's work. Each of these volumes has a stereo-signed foreword by Matthews dated March, 1932. (He dies 1970) The foreword of volume 2 reads. "Early Vancouver" Volume Two. Its Reproduction--Five Copies "Early Vancouver, as in 1959.
Research indicates that Volume One was commenced in 1931 and consisted of two books, one in original typescript, which is in the city archives, a carbon copy was presented in 1932 to the Vancouver Public Library.
