This book is worthy of professional conservation and rebinding, but as of yet it is still currently in it's original state. It is in worn condition from use during dissection, but it is complete, and far better than is to be expected. Many copies lack the ads, which are present in this copy. The original binding is in poor condition, and lacking the spine. The text block is in Good+ condition for it's age, and is consistent with that book grade, and is as is to be expected on a critical anatomy text book that was used during dissection. There were only 2000 copies of this First Edition, and the possibility of finding one without wear from usage is unlikely. Even the possibility of obtaining the complete book in any condition is difficult. There are currently no other copies for sale.This is the Rare First Edition. Printed in 1858. This is the exceedingly rare FIRST EDITION of Gray's Anatomy. This is the rare LONDON EDITION. This 1858 London Edition precedes the 1859 American Edition, and is the most desirable and more expensive of the two. Extensive generalized wear, but complete and intact, aside for the half title page, which is at least still present in this copy, (often lacking or removed) which is clipped to remove an owner's name, as is very clearly shown in the pictures; and is detached, and missing the piece shown in the pictures. The blank end paper is also detached, as shown in the pictures. With some loose chips around the margins, also as shown in the pictures. The ads are also detached, with marginal wear, also as is shown in the pictures.The title page and beyond are complete and intact with only marginal wear, and usage wear that is to be expected, not affecting text. The covers are technically still attached, as the hinges are still held by the rugged underlying binding cords, as is shown in the pictures. The spine is missing, as is shown in the pictures. All illustrations appear present. This book is illustrated with 363 wood engravings. The illustrations are in-text. They are not on separate engraved plates. There are no hand colored illustrations, as is found in some copies; the hand coloring was aftermarket, not as issued; and is considered acceptable not preferable. Generalized wear consistent with the book grade, as is to be expected. Book has extensive wear and is worthy of being rebound. Text block is complete, and ads are present albeit detached. This is significant as many copies completely lack the ads. This copy still retains the ads, as shown in the pictures.
