The Second Edition With Additions 1774 - This copy LACKS the Portrait Frontispiece and 5 out of 7 copper engraved plates. The 'Notes to Binder' at the end also mentions 'Maps' but no list and NONE present. However the text is complete and still present are 2 of the 3 superb large panoramic fold-out plates = The North Prospect of his Lordship's seat of LISMORE, and the N. E. Prospect of the Town of DUNGARVAN. The previous owner has carefully preserved the book despite the missing plates. Professionally rebound in the 1980s with a tan leather spine, lettered in gilt, with brown cloth boards. Page fore-edges have ingrained dust and are toned with age. New plain cream endpapers. No Inscriptions. (xx) + 376pp + 6 Index pages, including Errata and Notes to the Binder, + 2 pp Publishers book list. Some page corners are creased and chipped, but generally inside the text block is clean and tight. The 2 fold-out engraved plates have creases to the folds - from over 2 centuries of being folded in the book - and the exposed edge on the Lismore plate is browned and edge chipped, but on the blank margin. The Dungarvan plate is very browned to the central fold with some loss to the very bottom (blank portion) edge at that point. Loosely included is the 1980 binders invoice/receipt. 'The Antient And Present State of The County And City Of Waterford 'by Charles Smith (1715-1762) was first published in 1746 and is among the first significant histories of the region. Although very faulty, this later copy with additions is an Original copy of a scarce title, and the plates alone are probably worth the price! See Images. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
