New York: Selmar Hess. Very Good. 1898. Revised Edition. Hardcover. Chromlithographs and woodcuts; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 1844 pages; 6 volume set. Uniformly bound oversize HC volumes in ribbed brown cloth with elaborate decorative borders in black and decorative titles brightly in gilt. A well preserved set with complete complement of 34 tissue guarded chromolithographs produced by the esteemed Louis Prang, along with 68 full-page wood engravings, & 833 in-text b&w figures. Bindings are bright and neat with only these exceptions/flaws. Overall some mild rubbing to cloth at tips and spine ends; Vol II has a tiny nick to cloth mid-spine; Vol III has a split to the rear endpage and a short tear to the cloth of the rear hinge at the tail; Vol IV has split rear endpages and a tiny nick to cloth mid-spine; Vol V has sevewral small nicks to cloth mid-spine and front edge of the upper board. Shallow damp line along the bottom edge of the moire endpapers, but not visioble to any of the pages or plates; here and there a tissue guard stress creased. Chromo plates a little toned at edges. Overall a very well preserved set with plates in excellent condition. VG. ... Oversize book set will require additional charges for most shipping methods. .
