The first two volumes were limited to 150 copies printed on hand-made paper, watermarked ‘Ruisdael’. There was also a trade edition uniform with the third volume. Mrs. Oliphant died before the third volume had been written, and the two completed volumes were dedicated to her memory by the publisher.
