Jackson became controversial for his rejection of the American Civil Rights movement, but in this address -- given six years prior to the split between the NBC and its more political offshoot, the PNBC (Progressive National Baptist Convention), he speaks glowingly about the recent Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, even proclaiming May 17th as a national holiday; and takes America to task for her failure to eradicate Jim Crow, even as she is "willing to send her own sons across the sea to die for the freedom of strangers whose devotion to the ideals of democracy she does not know."
