Green wrappers have chips, tears, and pieces missing at one corner and spine end. Light soil and toning, with "Coal" handwritten on front wrap. Toned edges on title page and light soil on just a few pages. Errata page. Numerous fold-out plates show scenic illustrations of coal towns and their surroundings and a few geologic maps, with a bright full-color folding frontispiece, Panoramic View and Geologic Section of Durango Coal Fields, measuring 8 3/4" by 35" with fold splits. Scarce, with only nine copies found on OCLC. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall; 264 pp .

Illustrated with 16 plates (complete) numbered I - XV and A (not in order), most of which are fold-out including the color frontispiece frontispiece. The binding is chipped and worn with the spine lettering being illegible. A few scattered notations from the previous owner throughout the text and to a few of the plates. Uncommon work.
