The author, William Ross McNabb, published a number of works about historic architecture in Knoxville, Tennessee. By studying a collection of drawings by American architect William Strickland (1787-1854), which are held by the Tennessee State Library, McNabb was able to focus on Strickland's residential designs as well as to speculate about several other designs for large public buildings.
