1981. Book. ACCEPTABLE. No Binding. [ANTI-WAR; ANTI-NUKE] Protest Poster, USS CORPUS CRISTI: fast attack in his name. Inscribed at lower margin--"What I have written, I have written" Pontius Pilot/ John 19:22 (in black marker) and signed in pen, George K_____? '81.(Knowle?) A crudely made but quite effective poster, silk screened/ stenciled. Loss at corners, particularly lower right; creases, tape marks, holes-- safe bet that it saw some action, an entirely ephemeral protest poster. When the Navy announced that a Los Angeles Class submarine was to be christened USS Corpus Christi, Body of Christ, it prompted Catholics, Christians, and others to take to the streets- naming a killing machine after the Lord Jesus just seemed wrong. The furor subsided with a clever compromise when the U.S. government changed the official name to The City of Corpus Christi (Texas). The submarine was launched on 25 April 1981. This is a rare artifact from that specific protest. . Ships rolled..
