About This Item

Paris: Alphonse Picard, 1886. Hardcover. Very good. 8vo. viii, 243 pp., INTERLEAVED and ANNOTATED throughout. 2,776 lots. Contemporary French black and brown mottled boards, black roan spine with four raised bands, lettered direct in the second compartment. Lower hinge and recto of final endpaper repaired, evidence of waterstaining and old mold (now inactive) on final five leaves and endpaper. Not a good copy, but priced accordingly. Priced, interleaved, and profusely annotated copy that almost certainly belonged to the auctioneer or expert, in which are listed on the interleaved sheets the bids (in code) that were received. Emile Egger (1813-1885), eminent French philologist and Hellenist, was the author of the very successful "Histoire du livre depuis ses origines jusqu'a nos jours" which was first published by Hetzel in 1880 and went through several editions. Highly curious.
