American of French extractionwho went to Santa Fe and Taos and involved in trading furs and horses, married a beautiful Mexican woman which allowed him to be free of the Mexican taxes on the American settlers. Later joined the American "Army of the West" under Stephen Watts Kearney in the U.S. war with Mexico as an interpreter.
