A novel about refugees in Paris before the beginning of World War II, which was the basis of a 1948 movie starring Ingrid Bergman and Charles Boyer. Book is in Very Good+ Condition: cover is lightly soiled; slightly shaken; pages are clean and solid. Dust jacket is in Good Condition: rubbed; chipping and small tears along edges.

Crop annotations in manuscript pencil and stamp on the verso obscured by manuscript marker. Based on the 1945 novel by Erich Maria Remarque. A complex romantic film noir, in which Dr. Ravic (Boyer) is a refugee doctor practicing illegally in Paris under a false name. He saves Joan Madou (Bergman) from committing suicide after the sudden death of her lover, and helps her land a job singing in a nightclub. The two fall in love, but he is deported. Joan finds herself another man's mistress while Dr. Ravic seeks revenge by hunting for the Nazi officer, Ivon Haake (Laughton). Set in Paris, shot on location in New York and Paris. 8 x 10 inches.
