Clean firm brown covers with gilt lettering on the spine, light wear to edges, sound binding, clean pages, slightly darkened at edges. Bookplate on inside front cover of part 1 - "Bequest of A T Longbotham of Stafford Lawn, Halifax. An original Member of the Society. (1942)". Volumes contain many black and white plates, photographs and illustrations. Part 1 contains fold out plates facing pages 92, 216, 220 (colour) and 234 (colour) with colour double plates at pages 224, 226 and 228.
