1750 Christopher Sauer Germantown Pennsylvania QUAKER Americana RARE Sowr

From the FAMED printing press of Christopher Sauer of Germantown Pennsylvania!

Primarily remembered for his novel "The Adventures of Telemachus", Francois Fenelon was a French archbishop of Cambray who wrote a number of poems and essays. One such work was his 'Dissertation on Pure Love' which was highly important for its inclusion of the life and work of Madame Guyon – a French mystic and proponent of Quietism.

In early Quaker Pennsylvania, the works of both Fenelon and Guyon were quite popular. So much so that publishers like Christopher Sauer published them together in one work. This 1750 edition of describes Guyon as a 'martyr to Catholic intolerance, a Protestant in disguise, or an example of inner perfection'.
