Cambridge, MA : Harvard University Press, 1952 Harvard University Press, Cambridge, MA. 1952. Hardcover. First Edition. Book is tight, square, and unmarked. Book Condition: Very Good; slight shelfwear to head, tail, tips and bord bottoms; bumped upper tip. No DJ. Green cloth boards and spine with bright gilt lettering on the spine with Newport crest on the front board. 241 pp+ 230 B&W plates; large foldout map at rear in perfect condition; 2 appendices. Newport is thought of today as the homes of millionaires but long before they were in town it was populated much lesser people in more colonial buildings. This book is designed to give a brief insight into the life of the seaport town and to present a chronological history of the city's architectural growth from its foundation to the first years of the twentieth century. An attempt has been made to indicate the extent and condition of the remaining colonial buildings to suggest a method by which the restoration of the historic sections of the city may be accomplished. A clean very presentable copy. Due to size/weight, no international shipping.
