Five of these yachts served in the First World War, and their story is traced until 1946, at which point the text of the book backtracks to follow the history of the sixteen Second World War vessels. (It) tells a fascinating tale of our home coastal defences, by following the wartime exploits of the yachts and their crews (and) ends with a look at the disposal of the yachts after the two World Wars; not only those that were scrapped, but also those that went on to serve for many more years as private vessels once again."
