Washington: Government Printing Office, 1864. Two volumes in one, bound with: Eaton, J.H. Supplement to Army Paymaster's Manual, to include March 4, 1865. Washington, Government Printing Office, 1865. Stamped in gilt front cover "A. H. McDonald, Capt. & Com. Musters, Dept of LA". With his handwritten notations in red ink at many pages, plus correction slips tipped in at pages 31 and 83. Archibald Henderson Spencer McDonald, 1836-1900, Civil War soldier and printer. From 1864-1866, he served as a Commissary of musters in the Department of Louisiana for the 2nd division, 13th Army Corps, stationed at Brownsville, Texas, and later at New Orleans, Louisiana.. With the contemporary bookseller's ticket "from Peter O'Donnell, Stationer, Printer & Blank Book Manufacturer, 16 Camp St. New Orleans" at front paste down. Peter O'Donnell was a prosperous bookseller and stationer who provided diaries, day journals, and drayage books, as well as producing slave registers before the war and P.O.W. parole books after it. Bound in original quarter black leather over brown leather boards, Good, leather at spine gone, front joint weak but holding, contents complete and clean, 20th c. prior owner name, address, and date in ink front end page. . First Printing. Quarter Leather. Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
