Denver: Alan Swallow, 1961. 220pp. Inscribed by the author "For/Jim Powers/an old and dear friend/and a wonderful writer/Frederick Manfred/1-16-1963" Manfred was a prolific writer of mostly fiction about the midwest, specificaly the area where the borders of Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska and South Dakota meet, which is named "Siouxland". A few of his novels were bestsellers and his novel "Lord Grizzly" was nominated for the 1954 National Book Award. The late J.F. Powers won the 1963 National Book Award for his novel "Morte D'Urban" and his 1988 novel "Wheat That Springeth Green" was a finalist for the same award in 1988. This copy was in Powers' Library at the time of his death in 1999. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Limited Edition, 1 of 740 Copies.. Hardcover. Fine/Very Good.
