Detailed account of Arnhem land art and artefacts: both authors were leading anthropologists and their analysis of the images remains within social and technological frameworks. Loosely inserted small photograph of Aboriginal warrior-theme artwork (wooden relief with shield and figure) dated 1951. Quarto, colour and black & white plates, fold-out black and white map; original red cloth, ownership inscription of sculptor Ian Spriggs on front free endpaper. Spine ends have faded, otherwise a very good and clean copy in the dust-jacket (worn).
