About This Item

New York: Harper and Brothers, 1949. Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good. First edition. Quarto. Illustrated cloth boards in dustwrapper. A bit of soiling and slight spotting on the boards, very good in very good dustwrapper with nicking at the foot and some age-toning. This copy personalized (but not signed) by Steinberg on the half-title, with a drawing of a crossbow shooting a bird (with a few random symbols and letters, possibly a rebus of some sort) and dated "1954 New Years." The book includes a few other pictures of birds being menaced with weapons, but not one that correlates directly to the one drawn. Steinberg drawings are scarce.
