Germany.. No date. 1735- 1745.. Engraving with mezzotint, printed in color with additional handcolor, image size 13 1/4 x 8 1/2 inches on sheet 15 x 9 3/4 inches. Faint 1/8 inch abrasion to upper right image, very good condition. Single calla lily plant divided into stem, flower and leaf, plate No. 174 from Johann Wilhelm Weinmann " Phytanthoza Iconographia ", printed on thick laid paper. Dunthorne (#327) notes that plates from this work represent "some of the earliest examples of color printing from a single plate", many of them printed by a combination of line engraving and mezzotint. .
