London: Bradbury, Agnew & Co., 1858. VERY GOOD. 1858 Bradbury, Agnew & Co.Editon. Subscription Edition: Printed for Subscribers from the plates of the Original Edition. "Subscription Edition" stamped on base of spine. Preface dated 1858 - no other date indicated. A clean, unmarked and unread copy - pages still uncut - with 13 full-page hand-colored steel engravings with tissue guards plus a hand-colored illus on title page; 19 full-page woodcuts, plus several woodcuts in text. Note that one of the color plates is placed as a Frontispiece rather than facing page 30 as called for in contents. Endpapers toned, rear endpaper especially dark, otherwise pages and plates are fine - hand coloring bright and unfaded. Bound in bright red cloth over beveled boards with decorative gilt and black stamping front and spine. Cover spine is faded, gilt dulled, but otherwise cover is clean and bright. Light edge wear, primarily to spine ends with short tears to base of spine, and a few areas of color fade to edges. Binding tender, crack starting before frontispiece, but all pages and signatures holding. Spine and boards are straight and square. 5-1/2 x 8-1/2". xi + 423 pages. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket.
