London: Jonathan Cape, 1928. Limited Edition. Octavo. A special author's edition limited to only 150 copies signed by the author. The present copy is number 32. 7-286p. In 1924 Michael McDare is in an internment camp in England for Irish rebels. He escapes to the United States, and there he plots alone for three years a political assassination. He later picks two accomplices. With their help he commits the murder. The assassination he narrates in modelled upon an actual sensational event. Bound in blue cloth stamped in gilt, spine lettering and top edge gilt, small spot of fading and a bump to foot, off-setting to pages 85-86, a very nice copy in pictorial dust jacke,t chip to upper corner of front panel, some chipping to head and foot, light fading to spine. From the library of Julian Park with his bookplate. Julian Park was Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Buffalo from 1919 to 1954. A humanist and educator of the old traditions, and a man of wide learning and understanding, he was also an avid book collector. His collection is housed at the University of Buffalo. A very nice copy.
