Atlantic City Cantata by Chisholm, Hugh - 1951

New York: Farrar, Straus & Young, Inc., 1951. 1951 Edition. NEAR FINE in GOOD (and scarce) dust jacket. A crisp, clean and firmly bound copy. The only marking is an owner name neatly penned on front free endpaper (J & J Bingham - which would be NY Congressman Jonathan Bingham.) Pages fine, bound in hardcover of dark blue cloth over boards with yellow spine panel. Spine is titled in blue. Cover is clean and near fine with only slight edge rub. Bonding and hinges firm and straight. Price-intact dust jacket is clean though edge worn with short edge tears, chipping to spine ends flap folds, scuffing along folds. This work is described as "a choral composition in poetry." Hugh Chisholm (1912-1972) was the grandson of paper mogul Hugh J. Chisholm (International Paper Co.). For Chisholm's 1932 poetry collection "White Horses" he used his full name - Hugh J. Chisholm, Jr. In 1947 he published "The Prodigal Never Returns" and seems to have abandoned the full name, simply identified as Hugh Chisholm.
