Hardcover. first edition, large format (280x222mm), 272pp, lavishly illustrated by dozens of drawings, maps and plans distinguished by the fact that, in a very sophisticated way, only one second colour is used: an elegant sage green in various tints, sage-green endpapers, the only illustrations in full colour those on the sage green dustwrapper of three wall paintings at Lascaux, original cloth, title gilt on spine, dw with a few rub marks on fore-edge otherwise nr fine.
