Hodder & Stoughton, London, 1889. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Green coloured endpapers. Blue coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles to the backstrip and gilt to the top textblock edge. A series of stories that were told to the author by his mother. His mother followed a very strict form of Protestantism called Auld Licht, and the stories emphasise this belief system. The author's second book. Softening of the backstrip edges and rubbing of the book corners and lower book edges. Rubbing of the book panels, most particularly the rear panel. Browning of the textblock edges and of the pages. Both the front and rear hinges have cracked, and the underlying webbing is visible. Gift inscription to the half title page. Publication date on the title page reads thus:  MDCCCLXXXIX. Second Edition. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [6], 2-250, [2  further titles from publishing house] pages.. Deckled edges (rough cut). Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
