About This Item
[Japan]: Umeda Printing Co., presumably for the author, 1999. 173p., vignette photo and vita of Suga, pink boards titled in rainbow foil and decorated with a chaste inkwash; mild signs of wear and a little soiling, very good copy, remarkably fine haiku. Signed in inkpen on the ffep with personal stamp in red. Laid in is a personal publicity letter (some 100 words) from ur-translator Hirata to friends. Hirata's rough English versions may have been as rough as his Englished language in this short enclosed letter; excellence on the page must be due in great part to two persons credited an authorial note p.173, acknowledging "Ms. P. Donegan and Ms. Y. Ishibashi who refined my haiku and into a flowing style" as indeed they did; Suga's conceptual powers are however eminent and unmistakeable.
