Complete in eight volumes. 8vo. Leather spines and corners, gilt titles, rules, and decorations in compartments, top edges gilt, marbled boards and endpapers. 'George Eliot' was of course a pen name for Mary Ann Evans, who was among the most important authors of the Victorian era. Virginia Woolf called Middlemarch "one of the few English novels written for grown-up people."
