Rear board of sixth volume repaired at joint, spines slightly faded, board edges lightly rubbed with tiny blemish to D of Deronda and light soil to top edge of the same volume. Complete in eight volumes. 8vo. Leather spines and corners, gilt titles, rules, and decorations in compartments, top edges gilt, marbled boards and endpapers. 'George Eliot' was of course a pen name for Mary Ann Evans, who was among the most important authors of the Victorian era. Virginia Woolf called Middlemarch "one of the few English novels written for grown-up people."
