Clean covers and spine; few light scuffs to covers; slight rubbing at corners; small damp stain on text block top edge, not visible on pages; tightly bound; owner name in pencil on front free end paper; clean interior. Loosely biographical of author Mary Heaton Vorse's mother. Author was a noted suffragist, pacifist, popular novelist, labor journalist, Wobbly, a founder of The Masses, a founder of the Provincetown Players, 'discoverer' of Sinclair Lewis, Montessori teacher, single mother. As a reporter she covered all major strikes from Lawrence MA in 1912 to Passaic NJ, Gastonia NC, Harlan County KY and on up to waterfront union corruption in the 1950s.
