Hardcover. 2nd Edition. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. 2nd edition, having a preface by Douglas, but with the text unaltered, 1931. 7 3/8" x 5 3/8", xiv, 340 pages. Lord Alfred Douglas (1870-1945) was a poet, magazine editor and writer. He befriended Oscar Wilde in a relationship which was seen as illegal in Britain at the time, and wrote several books about the friendship. He was editor of the magazine 'The Academy' before serving time in jail for libel. Later editions of this book were entitled 'My Friendship with Oscar Wilde; The Autobiography of Lord Alfred Douglas', presumably for a market less aware of Douglas's association with the notorious Oscar Wilde. The printed dedication page reads "To William Sorley Brown," whose ownership stamp is present on the front pastedown. An ardent admirer and long-time friend of Douglas, Brown published a brief work titled The Genius of Lord Alfred Douglas in 1913 with the intention of highlighting Douglas's poetical prowess at a time when most people knew him only for his scandalous affair with Oscar Wilde. Editor and owner of The Border Standard, Brown was known primarily for being a journalist. He is mentioned on page 268 and 292-3 of this book.
